THE PROBLEM

There is a divide in the US between some residents and the immigrant community because they are “taking our jobs”

Personal appearance work, also known as day labor, is composed of 63% immigrants nationally, with approximately 19% of those immigrants being undocumented.

In Santa Clarita, there are crowds of day laborers that sit in the heat all day waiting for someone to hire them, at  Home  Depot  and the corner of 13th and Railroad.

The city of Santa Clarita has been trying to get rid  of these day laborers for over 2 decades, showing how little our community values these hardworking people.

WHAT WE'RE DOING ABOUT IT

1. Making/serving food

We  provide homemade sandwiches, tacos, and other portable foods to the day laborers for them to take with them throughout the day. A team assembles the lunches  either the morning of, or the night before. Over 400  lunches have been delivered as of January, and the number continues to grow.

2. Talking with the day laborers

We talk with each and every person we hand a lunch to, and have translators on deck. This is a simple gesture just to let them know that we care.

WHY WE'RE DOING IT

1. Activates the community

By going out and personally delivering all of the lunches, we are creating a connection with each person in that community.

2. Shows compassion

Giving a lunch is a such a simple way of showing that you care for someone, especially for a group of people that does some of the hardest work in our city.

3. Fights      Trump's hate

As Trump  locks up immigrants in cages at the border and makes false claims  that they are all criminals and rapists, we are personally connecting with the kind and humble people that they actually are.
